As women, we all have those special girlfriends who mean the world to us! They are the ones who drop everything to come help, the ones who understand you, who let you be silly or sad, and the ones who tell you when the outfit you’re wearing needs to be given away. They truly wish the very best for you!
Like you, I have several girlfriends, all different and each unique in their own way! Some are old friends, some new and I love them all. There’s one though, who tops the list and that’s Margie. I’ve known her for thirty years but over the past ten years, she’s become my mainstay. She’s always there for me in good times and bad times. We first met at church and over the years, her curiosity and willingness to explore different concepts have taken us on the most amazing spiritual quests.
Together we’ve been part of the Mary Magdalene community since its beginning in 2005. Her new website for the Magdalene is sharing those things we’ve studied and better understand about the most misunderstood woman in history.
As a Master Mind Partner, she’s held my hopes and dreams in confidence. She’s prayed for my family and friends as I have for hers.
We’ve shared birthdays and holidays, celebrated happy times and walked through disappointments. We’ve held each other up during funerals and sat together in silence when there were no words. This past December, when the COVID blues threatened to steal my Christmas, she and her daughter, Sarah, decorated my tree! Who else but a great friend would do that?
She’s the taskmaster behind our Women Retreats, planning, organizing and communicating with our participants. We may hold them at my house but she is orchestrating every detail and then lets me lead the group. At our last gathering, we all dressed up like the women we most admired and shared a bit about each woman’s history and beliefs. It was inspiring and despite doing it virtually, we had so much fun. Margie makes things look so easy. All I have to do is show up. What a deal.
She helped me bake my first loaf of bread, an activity I vowed never to do again!
She’s attended dozens of fundraisers for The Rose, everything from the dressiest luncheons to the most casual affairs requiring shorts and tee-shirts like the Shrimp Boils. Why, she’s even jumped out of a perfectly good airplane during a Rose Fundraising event!
She makes me laugh and lets me cry when I need to. Most of all I can’t imagine life without her.
That’s why Galantine’s Day is so special to me. It’s one day out of the year when I have a special reason to reach out and connect with my girlfriends. I tell them how much I care about them and miss them. It also gives me a chance to encourage them to have their annual mammogram.
This year, especially, we could all use a reminder that someone cares about us. Join me on this Galantine’s Day. That card you send may be the most important one of her year.
